Pierre Freddy Barren De Kumbertin, a French educational historian is considered to be the father of Modern Olympics. He is also the founder of International Olympic Committee.
1st Olympics constituted in 776 BC.
The 1st Winner of modern Olympics- J B Connolly.
1st modern Olympics started in 1896.


1936 Berlin Olympics;-
Hitler was in charge.
Jessy Owens, the 1st American black guy won 4 gold medals(100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, long jump). The win was termed as that of humanity.
Jessy Owen award is given away each year in America to the best track & field athletes.


1968 Mexico city Olympics ;-
Black Power Salute- Performed by 2 American athletes(Tommy Smith, John Carlos) to secure the human rights of black people in America. In 200m race Tommy won gold & John bronze. After receiving the medal, they welcomed the American National Anthem with a raised fist & lowered head. Peter Norman who won silver, who wasn't American or black weared a human rights badge & joined the event. The act is termed as the most solid political statement in modern Olympics.


1972 Munich Olympics ;-
On September 5, Palestine terrorist group' Black September' intruded into the Olympic village wearing tracksuit & killed 11 Israeli team members including 2 coaches. Terrorists detained 9 athletes & tried to escape with 2 helicopters when the police stared firing. 5 out of 8 terrorists killed by the German police, 1 officer killed.


1976 Montreal Olympics ;-
Nadia Comaneci, a Romanian gymnast performed a perfect 10, grabbed gold at her age of 14. She scored 10/10 in routine & bar. She is the youngest woman to grab gold in allround event for the 1st time.


1988 Sol Olympics ;-
Ben Johnson bagged gold in 100 m finishing with a world record time of 9.79s. 3 days later he was declared ineligible due to the presence of banned Stansalolin found in his urine sample by the medical team. Carl Lewis who finished 2nd in a time of 9.92s was given gold. Thus he broke a 20 year old world record.


2000 Sidney Olympics ;-
Marian Johnson, an American athlete amazingly bagged 3 gold (100m, 200m, 4x400m relay) & 2 bronze (Long jump, 4x100m relay). But in 2007, following the investigations on balco medicine scam which rocked the American athletic world, Marian confessed to using banned medicine during the event. She was stripped from her Olympic feet of five medals. But other members of the relay team kept their medals.

Karnam Malleswari- 1st Indian woman to win a medal at Olympics(Sidney, 2000).
Shiny Wilson- 1st woman to lead India in Olympics.
P V Sindu- youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal.
Mariappan Thankavelu- the indian to win gold in Paralympics games in high jump (2016,Rio).
1st Indian to win a gold in individual event- Abinav Bindra, at Beijing(2008) for shooting, 10m air rifle.
1st Indian to win a silver in individual event after independence- Rajyawardan Singh Rathode(Athens, 2004).
1st Malayalali to take part in Olympics-

1st Malayalali woman in Olympics- P T Usha.
India won 1st medal in Olympics for hockey & for maximum times(8).
