Kolkata; The City of Joy

Called the City of Joy & the City of Palaces.

The older name of Kolkata was Kalighat. 

Till 1911, Kolkata was the capital of India. Viceroy Hardinge changed the capital to Delhi from Kolkata.

John Charnock, a Brit was the main architect of Kolkata city.

The city is built on the sides of Hooghly river. 

India's first ever Metrorail ran here.

India's first ever test-tube baby Durga was born in Kolkata in 1978.

It was the venue for the First Science congress(1913) & also for the hundredth Science congress(2014).

India's first ever girl school, Saint Thomas Girls School was started here in 1789.
