Those who muse about Argentina’s chances in world cup can’t
forget the two recent moments. One when Messi cried out when they lost out
their Copa finals to Chile. Another is the awkward free-kick my Messi over the
bar in the Brazil world cup finals of 2014 in the dying minutes. The captain’s
agony in two cases sum up the mindset of the Argentinians. He was on the heart of every move & yet
couldn’t’ come up with enough to truly justify his stature of world’s greatest
footballer.
Argentina won the cup in 1978 & 1986, they were the running dark horses but never came that close except on the previous world cup. The great Maradona was the exception were he won it in 1986 & guided Argentina to finals in 1990.

Now they will kick start the campaign under Jorge Sampaoli
against Iceland at Otkritie Arena on June 16 with a certain eye on further
proceedings till final. They might not be in an easy group fixture were they
meet with Croatia & Nigeria in the subsequent battles. But the tactics of
Sampaoli might be enough for their route to last 16. He came in as the coach
with a handful in his managerial tally. He with Seville ended Real Madrid’s 40
match winning streak. Argentina beat Brazil in his very first match as the manager
in june.
