Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)



Homi J Baba is the first Chairman of ISRO.
ISRO Headquarters at Bengaluru.
Vikram Sarabai- Father of Indian Space Research.
Vikram Sarabai space centre is at Thumba. Their scientists developed world's lightest dress- 'silica aero gel'.
Thumba rocketlaunching station inaugurated in 1963.
PSLV C27- India's first successful indigenous space launching vehicle with cryogenic engine.
Saral- most modern Indian satellite for ocean study launched on 25th February 2013 from Satheesh Dhawan space centre, Sriharikota.
Sriharikota called 'Spaceport of India' is an island part of Andhra Pradesh situated in Bay of Bengal. It divides Pulicat lake & Bay of Bengal. The space centre began functioning in October 1971.
ISRO's 101th space mission- PSLV C20 vehicle. It was used to launch 7 satellites including Saral.
PSLV C20 was the 23rd successful mission of the PSLV vehicle.
Saral(Satellite with Argos & Altiga) is a joint venture of India & France. Argos & Altiga, instruments developed by France can predict hurricanes & tsunamis. Also to study the nature of waterwaves. It weighs 410 kg. The 6 other satellitelaunched were,
Strand 1- World's1st smartphone controlled satellite developed by Britain.
Strand 1(Surrey training research & nanosatellite demonstrator 1)
PSLV C21- ISRO's 100th mission, launched in 2012 Sept 9th. It carried French satellite 'spot 6', Japan's 'Proiters' to the orbit.
Rakesh sharma- India's 1st space traveler & world's 138th. Traveled in Soyuz T 11 (1984 April 2) stayed in 'Salute 7' space station.
India's 1st artificial satellite- Aryabhatta launched in 1975.
India's 2nd artificial satellite- Bhaskara 1.
India's 1st indigenous radar imaging satellite- Risat 1. Launched in 2012 26th April. India's 1st multipurpose satellite is Insat 1A.
India's 1st communication satellite -APPLE.
India's 1st satelite for education 'Edusat' launched on 2004 September 20.
India's 1st space telescope- Astrosat
'From finishing hamlet to red planet' was the publication by ISRO on space projects.

Mangalyan ;--
ISRO's 1st interplanetary mission/ 1st mars mission. Project estimate was 450 crore(most economical mars mission of the world).
S Arun is the project director of Mars Orbiter Mission(MOM). It was launched in 2013 November 5th, from Satheesh Dawan space centre, Sriharikotta in PSLV-XLC25.
Mangalyan has 5 observatory instruments.
Lyman-alpha photometer- to study the presence of Hydrogen on mars.
Methane sensor for Mars- to study methane gas presence.
Manmohan Singh was the PM at the time of launching.
Narendra Modi is the PM while it reaches mars orbit.
PSLV -C37 - successfully carried 104 satellites to space in a single flight from Satheesh Dawan space centre, Sriharikota(15th February 2017).
Gisat 9 satellite was a present for South-Asian nations by India.
