International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an intergovernmental organization which promotes and delegate peaceful use of nuclear technology & power worldwide. Headquarters is at Vienna, Austria.
It was established an independent entity, but
they report to UN General Assembly & Security Council.
History
In 1953, the then US president Dwight Eisenhower proposed
for an international body to regulate the peaceful use of atomic power. The
international treaty called IAEA statute was discussed in the UN headquarters
and approved on 3rd October 1956. It was officially formed on
1957 July 29.
Mission
Promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy of its members
states, with high safety & prevent any military uses.
Currently there are
170 member states in IAEA.
