Forest

   Forests are the largest terrestrial ecosystem in the world with large trees, vegetation & a diversity of life forms. Geographically there're 3 types of forests- Tropical, Temperate & Boreal forests.

Tropical forests lies close to equator. They receive lots of precipitation annually & it's the home of half the species of the world.
Temperate forests lies b/w tropics & polar regions on both hemispheres. It is much cooler than tropical.
Boreal(Taiga)forest characterized by coniferous forests consisting of pines, species, larches etc.

Russia is the country with largest forest area in the world. World's largest forest is the

Coniferous forest in Taiga, Russia. Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world spread over 5.5 million sqm.

Indian forest covers 21.54% of total geographical forest area. According to the State of Forest report published by Central Forest/Environmental ministry forest can be of 3 types,
1. Very dense forest(70% tree canopy/hectare).
2. Moderately dense forest(40% tree canopy/hectare)

3. ‎Open forest(10-40% tree canopy/hectare).

The forest below 10% density belong to category Scrub.
