Indus Valley Civilization(2500 BC-1500 BC)



Indus valley or Indus or Harappan civilization(Saraswathy- Sindhu civilization)- named by Sir John Marshall.
RB Dayaram Sahni discovered Harappa in 1921(on the banks of river Ravi aka Parushny).
Major site at Lothal, Surkotada, Dholaveera, (Gujarat).
Kalibangan( black dangles), Rajasthan
Rupar, Punjab.
Banavali, Haryana.
Mohehjodaro is the largest city.
Indus people weer the first to produce cotton.
Barter system prevailed.
Number 16 was the unit of measurement.
Belong to bronze age.
Boustrophedon type of writing.
RD Banerjee discovered Mohenjedaro (called the mountain of dead) in 1922 (on Indus), which is the largest indus city.
Urr- World's 1st city(located in Mesopotamia).
Sumerian's deity 'Nanna's temple is at Sigurath(Urr). In 1930, Urr was dug out by Leonard Wooli.
Harappan Civilizaton can be divided in to -pre,early, mature & late cultures.
Pre-harappan -Mehrgarh
Early-Harappan - Amri , Kot Diji
Mature-Harappan - Kalibangan
Late-Harappan - Lothal
Mohenjodaro great bath.(39/23/8 ft)
Lothal was the port city of Indus valley civilization(Gujarat).
SR Rao discovered the city in 1955.
